KPD takes the stage in “May We Please Have Your Attention” by esteemed LA-based choreographer Victoria Marks, an Alpert Award winner, Guggenheim and Rauschenberg Fellow, and Fulbright Distinguished Scholar. With original music and live accompaniment by Bay Area vocalist and composer Caina Ho, 5 KPD dancers highlight the use of the chair for both disabled and non-disabled bodies, and how range of mobility is affected by them. Three highly versatile chairs, a mobility scooter and 2 wheelchairs, play as extensions of the dancers’ bodies. These contrast 2 static dining room chairs, and its dancers awkwardly maneuver in its sturdy stillness. It begs the question: who has the advantage and who is disadvantaged in these chairs? “I’m honored to create this piece with KPD to provide a lens spotlighting the lived experience of marginalized artists in a disability-informed aesthetic,” says Marks.
Full Radius Dance Company presents two works at FM4 to share with South Florida. The first is a series of excerpts from their latest work examining the fantasy novels “Alice in Wonderland”, Peter and Wendy, and The Wizard of Oz” through a disability-centric lens. Another piece to look forward to from this Atlanta-based dance company includes “Undercurrents”, which embodies currents of movement where partnerships are created and washed away, where subtle shifts create dramatic effects, and hidden feelings and impulses run below the surface.
Twelve dance artists, from Miami, San Francisco and Atlanta will present a full evening of physically integrated dance to question, engage and provoke audiences
