Karen Peterson Corash Wins The 2019 Boston Conservatory Entrepreneurial Grants, Awarded To Three Innovative Alumni

Karen Peterson Corash’s “curiosity in dance making” has helped her company, Karen Peterson Dancers, thrive for close to 30 years. The organization claims the distinction of being “Florida’s only full-time dance organization that features choreography performed by dancers with and without disabilities.” The EGP supported the dancers’ travel to New York City, where they performed this evocative piece at Judson Memorial Church

KAREN PETERSON & DANCERS

Karen Peterson and Dancers was founded in1990 and is Florida’s leading company dedicated to integrating professional dancers and students with a range of physical abilities. They have presented an annual season of new work throughout South Florida and have presented their work nationally, from New York to Washington, D.C., and in nine countries, including Brazil, Spain, Ireland, Serbia, Italy, Montenegro and Portugal. In honor of her work, Ms. Peterson has received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the New World School of the Arts, a Bank of America "Cultural Award" from the American Red Cross, and a "Queen of the Arts” Award from the Miami Herald.  The organization also received a 2011 Knight Foundation Award to support inclusive dance in the Miami Dade Schools, a 2017-2019 Knight Foundation Challenge Grant and a 2018 and 2019 NEA Grant to support “Forward Motion” Miami’s annual festival of physically integrated dance. KPD has also sustained ongoing educational and training workshops including working with over 4,000 teens with special needs since 2006.
